Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Treetor desktop app, the Treetor website, Treetor Pro licences, Treetor Sync subscriptions, account pages, downloads, and related services operated by Mclean Systems Research Group, LLC ("MSRG", "we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Treetor, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Treetor.

2. Accounts and eligibility

Using the Treetor desktop editor requires a Treetor account, which is how your Free access, Pro trial or licence, and any Sync subscription are identified. Downloading Treetor does not require an account. You are responsible for keeping access to the email account you use to sign in and for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use Treetor.

3. Free, Pro trial, Pro, and Sync access

Treetor Free includes local text notes, tree editing, search, local saves, and Markdown export. It does not expire. There is no limit on the number of trees or items at any tier.

Your first sign-in from the desktop app starts one 30-day Pro trial for the account. No payment card is required. The trial adds local picture items, screen capture, and annotation. It does not include Sync and cannot be extended.

When the Pro trial ends without a purchase, Treetor returns to Free. Text and tree editing continue. Existing pictures and annotations remain visible and exportable and may be removed, but creating or replacing picture items, capturing the screen, and opening the annotation editor require Pro or Sync.

Treetor Pro is a one-time purchase of $29.99. It enables the local picture, capture, and annotation features in desktop builds released during the 12 months after purchase. A covered build keeps those Pro features without an ongoing subscription. A $14.99 Pro renewal covers desktop builds released during the 12 months after the renewal date.

Treetor Sync is available for $5.99/month or $47.88/year. While active, it includes the current Pro features plus end-to-end encrypted sync, backup, version history, 10 GB of storage, and use across unlimited devices. Sync has no free trial. The first Sync subscription charge is covered by a 15-day money-back guarantee, subject to theRefund Policy.

Sync subscriptions renew automatically on the selected schedule until cancelled. You can cancel from the billing portal linked from your account page or from the desktop app when available. Cancellation stops future renewals but does not remove access for the period already paid for unless that charge is refunded. When Sync ends, local access falls back to Free or to a separately purchased Pro licence that covers the installed build. Trees already uploaded can still be downloaded once so that no device is left without its data.

An active Sync account can keep syncing offline for up to 14 days after its latest successful online access refresh. When that signed access window ends, Sync pauses until the account refreshes online. Free features and Pro features in a covered build continue to work locally.

4. Payments and Merchant of Record

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as Merchant of Record for Treetor purchases. Lemon Squeezy collects payment details directly, handles applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST, and issues receipts or invoices. We do not see or store your card number.

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy. Approved refunds are processed through Lemon Squeezy back to the original payment method where possible.

5. Your files and content

You retain ownership of the books, branches, notes, Markdown files, exports, and other content you create or import into Treetor. Treetor is local-first: your working trees are stored on your machine. If you enable optional sync and backup, we store an end-to-end encrypted copy solely to provide the service. We cannot read it and do not sell it. You are responsible for safeguarding your recovery code; without it, encrypted sync data may not be recoverable.

You are responsible for the content you create or import and for maintaining backups of anything important. You represent that you have the rights needed to use any content you put into Treetor.

6. License to use Treetor

We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Treetor in accordance with these terms. Treetor, its design, software, branding, website, and documentation remain owned by MSRG or its licensors.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Treetor or the website in a way that violates applicable law.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or another user's account.
• Reverse engineer Treetor except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
• Use Treetor to build or train a competing product.
• Interfere with, overload, or disrupt our website, API, sync, billing, or account systems.

8. Updates and support

We may update Treetor to fix bugs, improve compatibility, add features, or remove obsolete functionality. Support is available by email atsupport@treetor.app. We do not guarantee that every support request, bug report, or feature request will result in a product change.

9. Suspension or termination

We may suspend or terminate account access if we believe an account violates these terms, creates security or payment risk, or is required to be restricted by law. Termination of server-side account access does not delete local files already stored on your machine.

10. Disclaimers

Treetor is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that Treetor will be uninterrupted, error-free, or suitable for every workflow. You are responsible for reviewing exports and maintaining backups of important local files.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MSRG will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, or goodwill. Our total liability for claims related to Treetor will not exceed the amount you paid for Treetor in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 100, whichever is greater.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page and, when appropriate, communicated by email. Continued use of Treetor after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to first contact us at support@treetor.app and give us thirty (30) days to try to resolve the dispute informally.

If a dispute is not resolved informally, it will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief or from bringing an individual claim in small-claims court where permitted.
